Fear – What is it really?

What keeps many of us playing small in our life? There is no doubt in my mind, it’s FEAR. We all experience fear, however most of us run from it.  What lies beyond those small lives is not what we’re afraid of – but the wonderful things that can be. The fence of fear is often real enough to keep us playing small and away from the wonderful possibility to live the life most only dream about.

 

Let’s define Fear. It is an unpleasant emotion or belief that can likely cause pain or possibly cause a threat that someone or something is dangerous. Anxiety

Have you ever heard about this acronym of FEAR?

  • Expectations or Evidence
  • Appearing
  • Real

The fears which keep us where we are do not generally reflect reality – they reflect the beliefs of reality we hold in our heads. They don’t really exist – so we are held captive by imaginary walls.

 

I’m sure you have heard this before so I will give you a basis on how this happens. Just like a baby elephant gets chained when he is small to a small block as he grows up he never even attempts to move from the chains that hold him. Why? He quit trying when he was young. We know he is more powerful and could easily walk away with the block, but he doesn’t think he can.

If we could only understand this concept, “We are more powerful and fearless, but we just don’t believe it.”

STEP 3

Learn strategies to stop fear immediately. Understand what beliefs you may have that are hurting you. Many times the reason for feeling stuck is “fear.” Fear of failure, fear of not being sure the timing is right, fear of rejection, and so many other self-sabotaging beliefs are holding you back. Some even fear success.
It is in these moments, however, that our courage and faith are our most important assets. As wrote in 2 Timothy 1:7, “God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.”
